Mom what’s wrong with Dad being the stay at home parent?
You put in as many years of hard studying to get your degrees and experience in the workplace, so why should it be your career that gets sidelined because you both now have family responsibilities.
Hopefully your friendship and relationship has evolved with the times we now find ourselves in. Women activists fought extremely hard for generations to achieve acceptance as equals in the workplace. Imagine if those rights had not been implemented and tradition still reigned.
Women would not have been driven to have meaningful careers and to persue challenges in order to make the world a better place.
I do not wish to sound biased as many man have made a huge difference (normally with a strong woman supporting them). Think of the leaders in recent times, which with strong leadership have added value to so many, like Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meier. You do not have to be public figures to do great work.
If your desire is to be one of them, why should anything hold you back? Hopefully your relationship is such that there is no jealousy if you earn more than your partner.
Because women give birth to babies does not necessarily mean that men are less nuturing. Many men can bring up children as successfully as women and enjoy their lives at the same time.
Watch parents at a child’s special function, be it a school play or a soccer game. Fathers get as much pleasure as mothers from their children’s achievements. Why should anything preclude fathers from being the most wonderful stay at home parent?
If you were a stay at home Mom would you not ensure that you kept up with your field of expertise in some way. A stay at home Father can do the same if he so desires or he can persue other interests, time permitting.
Perhaps he would like to change tack and become a stay at home business person as well as a Father. There are so many opportunities available via the internet.
Or maybe he would rather persue a hobby which can be built into a very successful home business. People are always looking for new ideas and if you can think of ways to turn a hobby into an industry, you have the opportunity and time whilst looking after the home and children.
You read and hear of so many wonderful successes. People, who found themselves in challenging circumstances, take the time to reflect on what they can do to make a difference in their lives and find the most inventive ways to persue a hobby or career and make it into an extremely successful business venture.
I do believe that when this happens, the values both partners learn from their journey can change the lives of their nearest and dearest as well as many more who are exposed to their story.
Being a stay at home Dad advances the norms created by society. The whole family will most likely be closer and a lot more secure, knowing that both parents made a few sacrifices to have a better lifestyle.
