It is possible that you achieved most of what you strove for from your job although it never seemed like enough for either your ambitions or your employers expectations. The more you did, the more you were expected to do with or without acknowledgement.

I listened to a commentator recently who feels that there may not be a need for governments in the near future.

The internet could create the ‘new world order’ whereby today’s enemies can live side by side in peace. It sounded so far-fetched and then I thought, look what happened in Libya?

Whatever the next five years is going to bring, technology will be right at the forefront.  I for one, want to be right out there making a difference in peoples’ lives through the internet.

It is completely the opposite of what most systems teach as generally people get so fired up and excited that they are just let loose without training. I assure you that as good and confident as you are with people, you are going to encounter a ton of rejection. No matter who you are or how thick skinned and tough you believe yourself to be, rejection hurts.

Get some experience first.

Watch others in your upline get rejection and try to assess what you feel you could do better. Being forceful seldom works for anyone and nagging turns most anyone off.

You will hear advice like ‘throw mud on the wall and see what sticks’, meaning just blast everyone you know with what you are doing and if anyone comes back, work with them. I am not sure that this is good advice as there may be a lot of people in the mud that would like a more informative and gentler approach.

Accept the fact that you will get rejected by people you least expect.

If you have never been in a successful venture before or do not stand out as a business leader, those closest to you are not likely to believe that you will be successful. Often they prefer to wait to see how well you do and if you stick with the extra pressure of a business as well as a job. Do not be disheartened by this reaction. Some closest to you might even say you can never become successful in this kind of business, because they have tried it and it didn’t work. That mainly happens because they did not work the business and tried for a couple of weeks and gave up.

Nothing worthwhile happens overnight. Ask any person who has become an ‘overnight success’ how many years of practice and hard work it took before they became an ‘overnight success’. There is no such thing.

Respect peoples’ boundaries and do not try to impose your wishes on them. You would like to take everyone with you on this adventure. Some of your closest friends and family might reject you outright. Bear in mind if you become a success then they will have to join you and that can be very daunting for some.

Try not to show your disappointment if people do not pick up on your enthusiasm.

Never get angry with anyone and definitely don’t lose your friends or argue with your family over your business. Rather become a success and in time they might come around when they see that you are not stressed about people who say no to you. Also do not nag people to join your business. It should be done exactly as you have done.

When I had had time to digest the whole concept I knew that this was the business I wished to be associated with as it could revolutionize thousands of lives in a short space of time.

Life has a strange way of teaching us what we need to know. I never worried too much about being computer literate as I got by with what I knew.  Thankfully I have people close to me who spend time on the ‘net’.  One special person found a good few opportunities to change my circumstances and one in particular caught my eye. This article in Time also reported that one agency that matches Moms and Jobs had 34 000 job hunters in one month and only 54 jobs available. Not a healthy statistic. Companies also avail themselves to telecommuting allowing people to work from home, communicate and report back via the internet. All these methods help to keep company costs to a minimum whilst getting the job completed.

Flexible working is a further option to keep the wheels of business turning. Part time work is becoming increasingly popular and will in all likelihood become a norm in the near future.

It suits many people to work part-time so that they can attend to other responsibilities whilst still paying the bills. It is what many professional women have been seeking for years. Now if you are like I was with very few people skills and believed the only way to communicate was to get to the bottom line immediately, and couldn’t understand why people walked away so quickly, you need to take note of this.

The only problem is that I totally misunderstood what he meant by that.

No-one wants to hear about you or your problems particularly, but if you want to get to know someone, ask them questions about themselves.

Everyone loves to talk about themselves and it is the easiest way to get a conversation going.

For example, Hi, how are you doing; what brings you here is enquiring about them and from there you can ask questions that help people to feel comfortable, not too personal but general questions about themselves.  Try, you will notice how people open up quite easily when you ask them to talk about themselves.

I am not inferring that everyone is conceited and loves to talk about themselves but if you struggle to build relationships, an essential requirement in any type of marketing, then you may have to change a few things that you are currently doing.

It is always good to review things if you feel they are not giving you the results you require. It may just take a slight tweak, here or there, to give you the edge you need.

The above incident was a real learning curve for me and made it so much easier to get to know what people really wanted and to be able to decide for myself if I really wanted to work with them in my business.
